This is how a heat pump works
You probably have an air conditioner already. Well, a heat pump works (and looks) pretty much like an air conditioner!
In fact, a heat pump is like an air conditioner that does a little something extra. Like the AC you have today, a heat pump removes heat from your home and “pumps” it to the outdoors during the summer.
The difference is that a heat pump also removes heat from the outdoors and pumps it into your home in winter.
That’s how a heat pump heats your home without burning natural gas on site. On the coldest days and nights, most heat pumps are equipped with heat strips that provide auxiliary heat to ensure your home is nice and toasty. Some newer, more efficient heat pump models will rarely need to resort to heat strips in our climate zone!
When should you install a heat pump in Lilburn?
There are many reasons why people install heat pumps in their homes. Here are a few:
- The old AC has a refrigerant leak and isn’t under warranty any longer
- It’s time to replace an old furnace, and you’re ready to go all-electric
- You’re looking at a big HVAC repair bill, and you’re not sure it’s worth paying to fix an aging system.
- You want to claim a bigger tax credit that’s only available for a heat pump system.
- Your current HVAC system is over 12 years old, and you’re worried it will fail during peak summer or peak winter.
- You have decided to transition to an all-electric home, and a heat pump seems like the best next step.
- You already have an older heat pump, and it’s time to replace it.
