Know what’s even better than getting an energy-efficient water heater? Getting someone else to pay for it! Thanks to Georgia heat pump water heater rebates, you may qualify for a rebate that covers all or some of the cost of your next water heater.

The rebates come to you via the Georgia Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR) program, created to help homeowners make the switch to energy-saving electric appliances. By replacing a gas water heater with an ENERGY STAR-certified heat pump water heater, you may be able to qualify for a HEAR rebate.

Your new water heater might also qualify for rebates through your power utility. At the time of writing, Georgia Power is offering a special rebate to customers who install energy-efficient heat pump water heaters.

Let’s take a closer look at HEAR rebate eligibility, energy-efficient water heating, and how to qualify for rebates through Georgia’s HEAR program. We’ll also consider rebates that may be available through your electric utility.

Energy-Efficient Water Heating and Heat Pump Water Heaters

So, why are the federal government, the state of Georgia, and your power utility so keen on helping you upgrade to a heat pump water heater?

Because they’re so stinkin’ efficient. That’s why.

Unlike conventional gas or electric water heaters, heat pump water heaters heat water by removing heat from the ambient environment and transferring it to the water in the tank. This process, similar to how heat pump HVAC systems work, uses significantly less energy than conventional water heaters.

And if you’re switching from a natural gas-powered unit, an energy-efficient electric water heater has a much smaller impact on the environment. That’s especially true if you anticipate a large-scale transition to clean energy in the coming decades.

The bottom line? Rebates and incentives help you save big on the up-front costs of a heat pump water heater. Reduced energy use helps you save during every month you own the unit.
