How to Qualify for Heat Pump Water Heater Rebates in Georgia
Here’s a breakdown of the different ways to receive rebates or reimbursements for your heat pump water heater purchase.
Georgia HEAR Program Rebates
Heat pump water heater installation is a qualifying home electrification upgrade for the Georgia HEAR program. That being said, your household income determines eligibility.
The receive a HEAR rebate for your new heat pump water heater, you must:
- Have a household income that is less than or equal to 150% of the area median income (AMI).
- Replace a gas water heater with a heat pump water heater or replace an older, less efficient electric water heater with a heat pump water heater.
- Install an ENERGY STAR-certified heat pump water heater.
- Use a contractor approved to participate in the HEAR program by the Georgia Efficiency Finance Authority (GEFA).
IMPORTANT: Households with income between 80% and 150% of AMI qualify for a rebate of up to 50% of the total. Households with income less than 80% of AMI qualify for a 100% rebate.

Other Heat Pump Water Heater Rebates and Incentives
If the government paying you to install a heat pump water heater wasn’t already great news, Georgia Power will pay you, too!
At the time of publication, Georgia Power is offering a $1,000 instant rebate up to 50% of the cost of a new heat pump water heater. Since heat pump water heaters cost more than $1,000, Georgia Power customers will receive the full rebate amount!
There’s also a 30% tax credit available for homeowners installing a heat pump water heater, which is applied to the remaining balance after your HEAR rebate.
Example: Replace a $7,000 gas water heater with a heat pump model. With rebates and tax credits, the final cost could be as low as $2,675!
